02-20-06 Mount Pilatus

We decided to return to Mount Pilatus even though the weather was not great and the webcam up there was covered in fog. The first part of the ascension is done in a small enclosed lift. The second part (which was closed the previous day due to high winds) is done in a bigger lift that can carry dozen people easily.

The weather was very cloudy and foggy but as we kept on rising the skies started to clear. When we got to the top the weather cleared for a few moment and it was just amazing. We could see tips of surrounding mountains peek through the clouds. We walked through a cave that gave out to several view points. Katie even attempted to rock climb the rest of the mountain : )

On our way day down we were told that if we wanted we could get off at the next stop and borrow a wooden sled to continue our descent to the bottom of the mountain. At first Katie wasn't going for my new great idea since we were only wearing street clothes. Everyone else was wearing snow clothes. After a little convincing, we both got on our sleds and went down the mountain. We went through fog, snow and sharp turns. It was a really great experience and it took us 1H30 to go down the mountain. We had lots of fun doing this and no one got hurt... Just a few bruises...

That night we topped off our experience with another warm cheese fondue! We then took a nice little stroll around the town under a clear starry night.
